They are lightweight, handheld wands that connect to a laptop and are very popular among doctors. PlanScan and Nevo are updated versions of the E4D acquisition unit. It uses a laser scanner for image acquisition, so no powder is required. E4D Dentist, Nevo, and PlanScan by E4D TechnologiesĮ4D Technologies (formerly D4D Technologies) produces the E4D Dentist system. This is the most popular model on the pre-owned market. The MC XL is compatible with all CAD/CAM materials. It can do onlays, inlays, crowns, bridges, veneers, abutments, and all laboratory indications. The MC XL model is hailed as the “ premium package’ by Sirona. The MC X offers the same features as the MC, plus more chairside treatment options and block size compatibility up to 40 mm. This model only allows block sizes up to 20 mm and is a good choice for beginners. We don’t see these come through our store very often.
The MC is the most basic of the newest milling machines from Sirona. Sadly it’s time has passed and it’s not in very high demand these days. You can find 4 main milling machines on the pre-owned market to pair with your CEREC. Those extra features, including powderless scanning, come with a much higher purchase price. Omnicam units are still the most desired and offer the most features. They are still supported by Sirona, offer excellent image quality and intuitive controls, and can be purchased pre-owned for reasonable prices. Of the 3 generations, Bluecams currently offer the best balance of affordability and usability. Redcam units are the cheapest option by far, but are no longer supported by Sirona.
